More recently, competitive gaming surfaced as a larger, more serious entertainment medium and career path. With websites like Twitch, it's pretty commonplace to watch others play games as much as you play games yourself, and as human nature drives people to be more competitive, it was only a matter of time it became this big in video games. It arises in many shapes and sizes, such as Mobas like League of Legends and Dota, Shooters like Counter-Strike and Call of Duty, RTS games like Starcraft II, and Fighters such as Street Fighter and Guilty Gear.

Are there any sort of competitive gaming scenes that any of you follow, or even watch occasionally?

I personally enjoy checking out a lot of Fighting Games, since they're incredibly fun to watch, so I can still enjoy them even though Is suck at them.
I follow Smash Melee and 4. Rocket League scene is really interesting as well.

I've placed/won a few MK tournaments though it doesn't really have a 'scene'

When you said "MK" I interpreted it as Mortal Kombat and was completely confused. I'm now certain that you mean Mario Kart.

A friend of mine competes in Smash 4 but he hasn't gotten anywhere high. Though one time commentators called his Game & Watch broken.
I watch Melee, Smash 4 on the rare occasion, usually because it's right before Melee Grand Finals so I might as well watch it while I wait for the thing I really want to watch.

Nothing else.
I occasionally watch MMO raiding streams on Twitch.

I enjoy these kinds of streams, especially when it's smaller ones where I can interact with the broadcaster, since I can just give a bunch of smalltalk and sometimes even pointers between pulls.

For all you smash watchers, did you catch any of what took place yesterday, including Westballz's silly stunt?
Westballz is one of my favourites to watch, high level Falco players in general I love watching. The twitter beef/reactions were almost better than the set, a ton of people were freaking out and then Westballz went all in on the trash talk once he won.

only to lose in losers final lmao weshbaws.

It was mostly due to going Samus, which was an obvious jab to Leffen and probably cost him most of his momentum, but that's no excuse. I thought it was funny to say the least. I'm not much of a Leffen guy personally. Not because he's an asshole, because I don't mind a good trash talker, but I just really don't like him.
I don't really follow competitive gaming. It just doesn't interest me that much, I'm pretty much a casual gamer. I have thought of getting into competitive gaming in terms of FIFA but I realised I was no match to some of those pros
