I know some of you exist. At some point in your lives you've either tried an MMO or sunk a chunk of your time into one. If you've experienced the MMO genre, how was it? If you've made one a time sink for a period of your life, tell your story.
I've been messing with MMO's in some sort of way through the entirety of my adolescence, eventually moving from F2P's and going into the more popular paid ones, such as World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy. These games received a lot of my time, with me even to this day playing WoW on-and-off, and spending a nonstop 4 months into Final Fantasy's MMO.
I have FF14, and was a beta tester. It's fun, and I play with a guy from work

Do you play it very frequently? I enjoyed it up until Comcast started having a routing issue so I couldn't play at peak hours because lag would be unbearable. It's not a bad game but it really doesn't offer a very good endgame imo.
I've been tempted to give FF14 a go but I tend to avoid MMOs because I know if I get sucked into one then I'll never get out. Also I hate the idea of subscription-based gaming even though I understand why they have that model

Subscription model can be both offputting and frustrating but I see some P2P models going to a token-based alternative where players can either buy their sub with in-game currency, or just buy the subscription normally.
Unfortunately FF hasn't taken this approach yet and it has yet to be seen if they will or not.
Guild Wars 2 is a one-off payment iirc

It is, but I personally haven't considered it too successful. My friends who all went and have played that instead went to private World of Warcraft servers or something of the sort. To be honest, I haven't heard of a single person I've known play it in years. Not to say that there isn't a single person playing, but it's something I hear very little of these days, along with games like Wildstar, which was forced to go F2P shortly after release.

Depends if I know I'm going to be hella busy for 30 days or not. Though lately I've been playing every day because I updated my subscription

What server are you on? If you don't mind me asking.
I was the only child in my house that never played WoW. I Never really played any MMOs, to be honest.
